Label Chief Defends Taylor Swift's Grammy Performance
After days of backlash and criticism on her Grammy performance with Stevie Nicks, the head of Taylor Swift’s record label has entered into the ring, defending his superstar.
In a phone interview with ABC News, Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta said, “This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”
Borchetta also said that technical problems were to blame for Swift’s duet with Nicks, which days earlier had been given great reviews during rehearsals.
“We had a volume problem in the ear. So, she was concerned that she wasn’t able to hear everything in the mix,” Borchetta said.
Critics pounced on the 20-year-old superstar, and critiques on her performance began to overshadow the news that she had won four Grammys-including the top honor of album of the year.
Borchetta also invited critics to come see a Taylor Swift show as his guest, saying “You can see her in her element.”
