Lackluster Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards may be widely reduced

The Grammy Awards are 24 days away and it seems that this years telecast will continue without its usual star power. It was reported earlier that the Award show was seeking an interim agreement from the Writers Guild of America, but as negotiations head toward a stalemate, record labels and organizers of the Grammy Awards are preparing to proceed in less than amicable conditions.

As reported by the New York Times, dull turnout by music stars, could waste a much-needed opportunity to warrant exposure for artists and stimulate record sales. Industry executives also say, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has more at stake than the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which forfeited the Golden Globes Ceremony. The recording academy is reported to have already marketed a series of Grammy-branded CDs and had plans for a spectacular show to honor the awards' 50th anniversary.

Although a relatively small number of artists may not cross the picket lines, there may still be enough that attend the awards and save the show.

At this time the main concern of many industry executives is that a reduced Grammy Awards' could contribute to the troubles of the music business. With record sales steadily declining and amid the industry's struggles with piracy, the Grammys' are necessary in garnering music the attention it deserves.
