Lady Gaga Discusses Hidden Meaning in her ‘Telephone’ Video
The music video for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s single, which is entitled "Telephone", was unveiled late Thursday night on MTV. The video lasts for duration of nine and a half minutes and it features a cinematic theme that is reminiscent of Thelma and Louise. The video also features R&B artist Tyrese, who is poisoned by Beyoncé as part of her and Lady Gaga’s revenge plot. Lady Gaga spoke with MTV News about her experiences on set while filming "Telephone" as well as her relationship with her co-star in the video.
Gaga, who also worked with Beyoncé in a video shoot for her single "Video Phone", told MTV, “We had an amazing time working together on her video and it just kind of works out because we both like women.” She discussed how she was influenced by Quentin Tarantino when she had lunch with the renowned film director. Tarantino encouraged her to use a vehicle that was similar to the one that was featured in Kill Bill Volume 1.
The multi-platinum selling pop star discussed the creative influence that she has over the production of her videos, saying, “There's certainly always a hidden message in my music videos but I would say most predominately, I'm always trying to convolute everyone's idea of what a pop music video should be.”
