Lady Gaga Makes Billboard History

Gaga's debut album makes her the third artist in 16 years to rule Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 charts

Even though Michael Jackson is beating out major artists like Lady Gaga in album sales in the wake of his death, the musical fashionista is still managing to make her mark.

Gaga's debut album, "The Fame" took the Billboard charts by storm and according to Billboard, Gaga has become only the third artist in 16 years to boast three number one singles from a debut album on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay.

The three singles, "Love Game," "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" have solicited many covers of Gaga's work by high profile bands and one million albums.

Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, was preceded by 90s pop group Ace of Base, whose three singles "The Sign," "All She Wants" and "Don't Turn Around" made them the first musical act to achieve the feat.

More recently punk rocker Avril Lavigne followed Ace of Base in 2002 with the songs "Let Go," "Complicated," and "Sk8r Boi" from her debut album.
