On Saturday, Lady Gaga shared the stage with President Obama at a Human Rights Campaign event. She also took part in Sunday's National Equality March.

Both events took place in Washington, DC.

Gaga opened with her rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine". The 23 year old singer changed the words to reflect the tragedy of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student who was murdered in 1998.

Shepard's parents Dennis and Judy looked on as Gaga stated "I'm not going to play one of my songs tonight, because tonight is not about me. It's about you,"

The Shepard's received the Edward M. Kennedy National Leadership Award.

Lady Gaga also toned down her attire from her normal panty-less, masked costumes and wore a black dress with a pair of sunglasses.

The pop singer said in an interview with OurSceneTV, "All my friends growing up were gay, and tonight was a very, very special moment for all of us, and I respect and love everyone that works with HRC and wanted to be a representative for the young community of gay men and women, transgendered and bisexual, that will be coming tomorrow to march,".
