Lady Gaga has spoken openly about opening an Italian restaurant with her father, Joseph Germanotta, and now the restaurant has become a reality.
The restaurant, located on West 68th Street in New York City, features intimate family photos of the Germanotta family by the front booth. The walls are decorated with scenes of Tuscany and guests are greeted with a fireplace when they walk in.
MTV News reports that chef Art Smith is a part owner and will serve as chef of the low-key Joanne Trattoria restaurant. Gaga met him during a taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show, and he was Winfrey’s personal chef for years.
Joseph and Cynthia Germanotta, the “Born This Way” singer’s parents, will run the restaurant, with Joseph admitting it was possible because of his daughter because she "just generates a lot of sizzle.”
Joanne Trattoria is named after Joseph’s late sister, Joanne – which is also Gaga’s middle name -- who died of lupus at the age of 19.
Gaga has talked about her aunt before, saying she has been inspired by her in many ways. "I thought I was gonna die. I wanted to be the artists I loved, like Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol -- and I thought the only way to do it was to live the lifestyle,” she said. “But then I realized my father's sister Joanne, who'd died at 19, had instilled her spirit in me. She was a painter and a poet -- and I had a spiritual vision I had to finish her business."
The New York Times reports that the restauarant will open next Wednesday.
Back in November, Gaga told Katie Couric of opening the restaurant with her parents, “That’s wealth,” tearing up, “That’s the dream.”
