Laguna Beach, Season 3 Episode 1

in

Like any high school there is a jock, a rocker with the bad boy image, the clique of popular "mean girls" and the one who stands somewhere in the middle of popular and outcast. What makes Laguna so different is that these high school kids drive Mercedes and live in mansions that overlook the Pacific Ocean. Although there is a new class of Laguna Beachers this season who are ready to show us drama at its best, there were a few familiar faces on the first episode.

This season opens with Tessa on the beach with her new best friend Raquel, pondering whether or not she should go to Kyndra's (her ex-best friend) barbecue. Tessa is worried about feeling awkward at the get together and does not want to go alone. She says Kyndra and her new friends can be pretty cruel. Tessa soon convinces Raquel to come along even though she was not invited.

Next, we are introduced to Cameron, Laguna's new most-wanted bachelor. Laguna would not be Laguna without a heartbreaker and the friction he causes between the girls. Cameron is a water-polo player who has recently sprouted new muscles and now has his pick of the ladies. Even the notorious Jessica from last season is unable to resist Cameron's charms. She ends up at dinner with him and is so smitten, she steals his phone and begins reading text messages Kyndra has sent him. She is obviously not pleased with what she reads because she tells him she just finished a bad relationship (with Jason from Season 2) and has learned a lot.

On her way to the barbecue, Tessa interrupts her friend Chase at band practice to catch up. Chase asks her if she will be attending Kyndra's barbecue and Tessa explains to him her reservations about going. Chase listens understandingly, but encourages Tessa to at least try it out.

At the barbecue, Tessa's fears are brought to life. Kyndra is upset Tessa brought Raquel and tries her best to make them feel as uncomfortable as possible. Kyndra, her friend Cami and the rest of their cronies isolate themselves, so they can ridicule Tessa and her friends. Feeling unwelcome and unwanted, Tessa and her friends leave. Cameron, true to playboy form, talks all the girls into the hot tub. It seems Jessica was far from Cameron's mind that night, he tells his friend he spent the night at Kyndra's home.

In the end, it doesn't look like Jessica has learned enough from her ex, Jason. The show ends with Jessica watching Cameron on the beach and telling her friend how easy it is with him and smiling while her friend tells her how happy she looks. Jessica seems to have fallen for the wrong guy again, only this time she seems oblivious to it. She is unaware that Kyndra and Cameron have "hooked up" and of the fact that Kyndra is enjoying the hunt that much more now that she knows Jessica likes Cameron too.

There is sure to be much more drama as this season of Laguna unfolds.
