Larry King to Host Celebrity Telethon for Oil Spill

CNN and Larry King will host a celebrity telethon on Monday to raise relief funds for the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill.

The two-hour special edition telethon will include appearances by Justin Bieber, Deepak Chopra, Cameron Diaz, Kathy Griffin, Lenny Kravitz, Tim McGraw, Robert Redford and other celebrities. Sting will also be performing at the live telethon.

Celebrities will be involved with the telethon by appearing on set or via satellite.The celebrities will also participate in the program’s telephone bank, taking viewer’s calls. Ryan Seacrest will interact with online participants. Seacrest will host an online edition called “Social Suite” for viewers using social media like Facebook and Twitter.

CNN journalists will also report live from the affected region during the telethon.

CNN said that the funds raised from the telethon would benefit three charities: The United Way, the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy.

In January, Larry King held a similar telethon for Haiti and raised $5 million.

“Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help” will air 8 p.m. on Monday, June 21.
