'The Last Airbender' Given a C by Moviegoers
M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender is not faring well with critics. They have attacked Shyamalan for everything from the casting to the release, and Rotten Tomatoes awarded the movie with the low rating of 6.
Many of Paramount’s movies recent summer flicks, such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for example, have received bad reviews, but were still received well by the public. Airbender was also hoping to be a blockbuster hit, but audience reviews are suggesting otherwise.
Hovied News reports that, “according to CinemaScore, first-night moviegoers gave the movie a depressing C which is a sign for gloom and doom. The first-night moviegoers are usually those who are most excited to watch the movie have stated that the film was a stinker which gave the movie a C grade.”
The movie is no comparison to Shyamalan’s previous success with, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Lady in the Water and Signs.
Some critics have also suggested that Shyamalan should have added a larger number of Asian actors to his cast. His response? “The great news is I’m Asian, so that worked out really well. The casting of the movie was a really wonderful opportunity for me to make a world of nationalities that I was excited about and diverse and it is one of the great assets of the movie and the subject matter that it is borrowing from all cultures.”
