Last Days for Leno; Coming Up: Conan
On Monday, May 25, Jay Leno celebrated his seventeenth year as the host of the "Tonight Show," the late-night program previously presided over by comic legends like Steve Allen and Johnny Carson, according to the Associated Press. However, in less than a week, reports the "Washington Post," Leno will no longer host the "Show," handing the reigns over to Conan O'Brien, the soon-to-be former host of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," the program airing after the "Tonight Show."
According to the "New York Daily News," Leno is handling his last week of hosting duties with affability and grace, revisiting his nearly two decade tenure with high profile guests and healthy, checked nostalgia. Actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson, no stranger to the program Leno played a montage of clips of Gibson's many appearances on the show appeared on Monday night's show, Arnold Schwarzenegger was on Tuesday's program and comedian Wanda Sykes is slated to be tonight's guest. The "Daily News" reports Billy Crystal is scheduled to appear on Thursday's show. Friday night, Leno's final episode with the "Tonight Show," will have a very special guest indeed: none other than O'Brien himself, before he assumes the role of host the evening of Monday, June 1.
Though Leno is leaving the "Tonight Show," he is not leaving NBC. According to the Associated Press, Leno will begin hosting a new program, "The Jay Leno Show," this fall. It will air late on weeknights.
