The Last Emperor Reigns Supreme at Affliction: Day of Reckoning
The Affliction clothing brand held their second MMA pay-per-view event yesterday evening at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. In the main event, WAMMA World Heavyweight Champion, Fedor Emelianeko, defended his title against Andrei Arlovski. Fedor, or "The Last Emperor," defeated Arlovski by knockout with a huge punch when Arlovski elevated himself in attempting a flying knee strike against Emelianeko. The knockout came only three minutes and fourteen seconds into the first round.
Arlovski and Emelianeko had both won their respective bouts at the first Affliction event, Banned, in July 2008. Emelianeko choked out former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tim Sylvia, in 36 seconds into the first round. Arlovski defeated Ben Rothwell by knockout. Arlovski would later go on to defeat Roy Nelson at EliteXC: Heat in October, one of the last events for the now defunct EliteXC organization.
In training for this fight, Arlovski focused on his boxing under the tutelage of famed boxing trainer, Freddie Roach. Many believed that Arlovski had the best chance of any of defeating Emelianeko. All doubts and arguments were put to rest following Fedor's dominating knockout victory.
Also on the event, Josh Barnett defeated Gilbert Yvel, and seemed like the most likely next opponent for Fedor. However, Fedor does not wish to fight Barnett due to their strong friendship.
