Millvina Dean, the last living survivor of the Titanic, died at the age of 97 in Southampton, England. As the youngest passenger on board, two-month-old Dean was on her way to America with her parents when the ship went down (the Guardian). Although third class passengers, Dean, her brother, and her mother were among the first passengers off the cruise liner out of a total of 706 (the Guardian). CNN reports that she was admitted to the hospital a few days ago for medical complications, but soon returned to the Woodlands Ridge Nursing Home in Southampton. Although she did not have memories of the event, Dean represented an important link to both Titanic fanatics and historians (CNN). ABC Online states that she recently raised money for her bills by auctioning off $62,640 of items from the ship. Among these pieces was a 100-year-old suitcase and rare prints of the liner signed by the artists.
