Latin Jazz Drummer Dies at 76
Grammy winner Ray Barretto died Friday
Ray Barretto, a Grammy-winning Latin jazz percussionist died Friday officials said. He was 76. He died with his wife and two sons at his side at Hackensack University Medical Center. Barretto underwent heart bypass surgery in January and suffered from pneumonia.
Barretto won a Grammy in 1989 for best Tropical Latin performance for the song "Ritmo en el Corazon" with Celia Cruz. A year later Barretto was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame, and in January he was honored with the nation's highest jazz honor, being named one the National Endowment for the Arts' Jazz Masters of 2006.
