Lauren Conrad Is Now a Young Adult Fiction Writer

It's official: Lauren Conrad of MTV's The Hills has signed a three-book contract with HarperCollins. The series will be called "L.A. Candy," and at this point, the books will be semi-autobiographical, loosely based on the "transition from regular gal to recognizable face," SFGate.com's Daily Dish reported.

In an official press release, HarperCollins said that the books tell "the behind-the-scenes story of a young girl who moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality-television show," and that the girl soon realizes that "everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it appears to be."

Hold it-isn't this what The Hills is for? Now they want to publish supplementary novels?

Conrad told People.com: "It's definitely influenced by my own life. The books are about a girl who moves to L.A. and stars in a reality show, so obviously there are some similarities."

But she will not be naming names. "Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out," she said.

The first book is reportedly due next summer, and Conrad has already finished the outline. She said that she runs her ideas by her friend Lo. "I'll ask for her opinion because I value my friends' opinions," she explained. Where's Audrina in this process? Sorry, that's a whole 'nother topic.

"Honestly I haven't told everyone," she admitted. "I've told my best friends, and they have all been really supportive. Nobody was worried." We'll see about that.

In a statement, she said, "I've always loved books that I could lose myself in, ones that would transport me to another place but had characters I could relate to."

"I'm so excited to have this opportunity to write books like that for other readers."
