Lautner Still Black

Twilight actor Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Jacob Black in the forthcoming sequel, "New Moon."

It turns out Taylor Lautner is scary enough after all.

BBC news reports that Lautner, who played the role of Jacob Black in 2008's surprise hit, Twilight, will resume the role in the sequel, New Moon, scheduled for release this November.

There had been speculation that the young actor would be replaced by an actor with a more imposing physical presence. While Black was merely a peripheral character in Twilight, his role is greatly expanded in New Moon.

Both films are based on a popular series of teen novels about vampires written by Stephenie Meyer. Through the course of Meyer's books, the changes in Black's character are quite dramatic, which made fans and watchers in the film industry wonder if the role would be reconsidered in New Moon.

At the time of Twilight's casting, of course, no one was sure if there would ever be a sequel. The movie was a surprise moneymaker for movie studio Summit Entertainment, bringing in over $170 million in ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada alone. Summit confirmed that a sequel was in the works on November 22, 2008.
