Law and Order: CI, 'Major Case'

in
A drug dealer's murder turns out to be an inside job.

When Detective Megan Wheeler's water breaks during an investigation, Detective Alex Eames fills in for her. Working with Detective Zach Nichols for the first time ever, Eames is notified that she will have to keep an eye out for Nichols's quirky investigative behavior.

A young drug dealer, Grace, is found dead in a dumpster after she had run away from a fight. She had been beaten to death and her body had been bleached and clothing was clean. Whoever murdered Grace knew what he or she was doing.

Captain Danny Ross doesn't believe that this case is important enough for the Major Case Squad, but Nichols fights to investigate the crime because he knows that this isn't an ordinary drug deal gone bad; the killer is skilled enough to know how to cover his tracks.

After Nichols and Eames send what they find from their leads to the lab, several coincidences start popping up, which makes Nichols question Henry, the head of the NYPD crime lab.

Henry's mother lived across the street from Grace and when Nichols finds this out, he insists that Henry is the killer. This upsets Captain Danny Ross, because he needs Henry and his lab to solve more cases in the future. He tells Nichols to leave Henry alone.

To pin the murder on Henry, Nichols uses his own hair as a sample to match a hair "found" in Grace's body to see what Henry will do with it. As Nichols suspected, Henry says that the hair is a match to the suspect in custody.

Nichols finally gets the truth out of Henry, and the famed lab technician is put under arrest.
