At Least 20 Dead In Pakistan After Third Attack In As Many Days

A suicide bomber committed an act of terrorism in Karachi, Pakistan on Monday, killing at least 20 people and wounding dozens of others

A Shiite Muslim procession in Karachi, Pakistan was interrupted on Monday by a suicide bomber who claimed the lives of at least 20 people and wounded dozens of others, according to The Los Angeles Times. The suicide bombing was the third attack to take place in Karachi, Pakistan in as many days and pressure continues to mount on the unpopular Pakistani government from several different directions as a result of the continuous attacks from Taliban militants.

Unrest amongst citizens continues to circulate as the people of Pakistan lose confidence in the government as a result of the suicide bombings that have been devastating the region in recent months. The attacks are occurring by extremists in response to the Pakistani government’s attempt to root out militants along the Afghanistan border, which is a measure that has been encouraged by the United States government.

There were reportedly thousands of security forces who had been placed on high alert that were in attendance at Monday’s Ashura procession when the suicide bomber exploded. According to The Los Angeles Times, Ashara is regarded as an important event on the Shiite calendar and some worshipers who witnessed the bombing lashed out in protest after the attack occurred by setting fire to local shops and nearby vehicles.
