Lee vs. Eastwood: The War of Words Continues

Spike Lee fires back at Clint Eastwood's "shut your face" comment with some words of his own.

Director Spike Lee continues to defend accusations he has made against Clint Eastwood for neglecting to include African-American actors in his films, WENN reports.

Lee was angry when Eastwood's film, Flags of Our Fathers, failed to note the black contribution to America's efforts in World War II. However, Eastwood fired back, stating that his film was not neglecting to include that part of history, but that the part simply wasn't there. More plainly, he told Lee to "shut his face."

However, Lee has not taken all this sitting down. "First of all, the man is not my father and we're not on a plantation either. . . . I didn't personally attack him, and a comment like, 'A guy like that should shut his face,' . . . come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man," he fires back at Eastwood.

Lee insists that he knows his history, despite what Eastwood may suggest. "I'm not making this up. I know history. I'm a student of history. And I know the history of Hollywood and its omission of the one million African-American men and women who contributed to World War II," validates Lee.

And the director isn't holding back. "If he wishes, I could assemble African-American men who fought at Iwo Jima and I'd like him to tell these guys that what they did was insignificant and they did not exist," Lee threatens.
