Leftwich Named Bucs' Starter

Byron Leftwich has been named the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' starting quarterback.

Byron Leftwich has been named the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports the St. Petersburg Times. He has been competing for the starting job with teammate Luke McCown.

McCown took the news of his bench role maturely, stating, "Byron's the starter. And I'm going to do everything I can to help him be the best starter he can be. And at the same time, prepare and be ready to play if I'm called upon."

Pewter Report has also confirmed that Leftwich will be the starting when the Buccaneers square off against the Dallas Cowboys, September 13.

Fantasy Football Toolbox speculates that although Leftwich is the starter for now, given how tight the race was during the preseason and Leftwich's inconsistent play, McCown could be named the starter later this season.
