Legendary American News Journalist Dies
Former CBS news anchor Walter Cronkite died on Friday night in his Manhattan home. He was 92 years old.
Cronkite had suffered for years from cerebrovascular disease, according to his family in a press statement issued weeks ago.
Considered the "most trusted man in America," Cronkite covered important national and world events such as the Kennedy assassination, the Apollo moon landing and the Vietnam War. Cronkite retired from CBS News in 1980.
President Barack Obama said, "His rich baritone reached millions of living rooms every night, and in an industry of icons, Walter set the standard by which all others have been judged.
"But Walter was always more than just an anchor. He was family. He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down."
