Leif Garrett Gets 45 Days in Prison
Former teen idol failed drug tests while in rehab, says Calif. court.
He was an "Outsider," now he's an insider -- in the slammer.
Teen pop star and actor Leif Garrett was sentenced to 45 days in prison after violating a probation deal stemming from a 2004 arrest, the AP reported. Garrett had agreed to enter rehab rather than do hard time for that probation, but had since failed several drug tests at the rehab center.
On March 9 the 44-year-old Garrett told reporters he was "going down the right path," but began serving out his short sentence March 30.
Garrett is also facing felony charges for possession of heroin. Police found drugs on him after stopping him for attempting to ride Los Angeles public transit without a ticket. Garrett has pled not guilty to those charges.
