Lennon Murderer Denied Parole
Mark David Chapman, murderer of musical legend John Lennon, has been denied parole for the sixth time, CNN has reported.
A parole board of commissioners consisting of three members orchestrated a video conference with Chapman from their offices in Rochester.
In a written comment concerning the prisoner’s release, the board members expressed a concern "about the disregard you displayed for the norms of our society and the sanctity of human life."
Following the incident that occurred in December 1980, they deduced that discretionary release remains inappropriate at this time and incompatible with the welfare of the community.
This was Chapman’s sixth request for parole in the 29 years that he has served at the maximum security Attica Correctional Facility, and it is also his sixth refusal. The request comes almost the 30 years to the day that he killed the music star.
Despite Chapman’s good behavior in prison and what Erik Kriss, spokesperson for the Department of Corrections, describes as simply going about his business -- doing his prison job and without any fanfare’ -- he is still deemed a threat to public safety.
Chapman’s next parole interview will be in August 2012.
