Leno Apologizes for Insensitive Gay Joke

GLAAD demanded an apology for Leno's insensitive joke.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) recently complained about TV host Jay Leno for a recent joke he made that offended the gay community. They demanded an apology from the talk show host, and an apology is what they got.

On Tuesday, Leno apologized for comments made to Ryan Philippe about his first role as a gay teenager in "One Life to Live." According to eFlux Media, he asked the young actor to pretend that the camera was his gay lover and to give it his "gayest look."

President of GLAAD Neil G. Giuliano said in a statement that Leno's "thoughtless attempt at humor" was disrespectful for the gay community and insensitive to his coworkers and audience. He also praised Philippe's refusal to participate in Leno's request.

Leno replied with a prompt apology in a statement to People magazine, agreeing with Giuliano that it was a "dumb thing to say."
