Leno: Saving Television?

Jay Leno calms hype about "The Jay Leno Show"

Jay Leno begins his new primetime show, September 14th at 10pm on NBC. Time magazine has suggested Jay Leno may be saving NBC and all of television with his new nightly series, "The Jay Leno Show"

When the Time cover story was mentioned during a conference call with critics he Leno laughed. "That's hilarious," he said of his new series being declared the Future of Television. "That shows you the trouble we are in."

In an interview with the New York Post the 59 year old responded to the question "What happens if "The Jay Leno Show" doesn't work out?" with "…If, a year from now, if this bombs and people ask, "Did you do anything after "The Tonight Show," I'll say, "Me? No, no, I'm retired." You know?"

Leno sensibly has made attempts to diffuse the hype, lower expectations and downplay the commotion surrounding his new show. He continually states to those who will listen "It's just a comedy show."
