Letterman apologizes for joke about Palin's daughter
While on air last night, late night talk show host David Letterman apologized for making a sexually charged joke regarding Governor Sarah Palin's daughter. According to ABCNews.com, Letterman has spent a week calling it simply a "bad joke," but said on Monday, "The joke, really in and of itself, cannot be defended."
Reuters reports that Letterman had joked last Tuesday that New York Yankee's player Alex Rodriguez had "knocked up" Palin's daughter during a family trip to a baseball game. According to the article, Letterman's intended target was 18-year-old Bristol, but he was "confused" between the two and actually referred to 14-year-old Willow. He later assured his audiences that he would never make sexual jokes about a 14-year-old.
Letterman was quoted on Newsday.com calling the joke "beyond flawed" and saying, "I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke."
