Liam Neeson Talks Returning to "Batman"
According to MTV.com, actor Liam Neeson is open to returning to his character of Ra's Al Ghul for another Batman movie sequel. In recent months since the release of the second biggest movie of all time, The Dark Knight, the Internet has run rampant with casting and villain rumors which even included false reports of Cher portraying Catwoman, Johnny Depp playing the Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman playing the Penguin. Neeson portrayed Ra's Al Ghul, the villain of the 2005 movie, Batman Begins. While Ra's Al Ghul appears to have possibly perished at the end of the movie, his death was hardly final and allegedly happened offscreen. Ra's Al Ghul in the DC Comics also comes back from the brink of death itself quite often.
MTV spoke with Neeson at the Sundance Film Festival regarding a possible return as the character. According to Neeson, "You never know." When Neeson was asked if Batman movie director Christopher Nolan had Neeson's phone number, Neeson replied with, "He does, actually." Neeson also said with regards to The Dark Knight that "the tapestry of the story was quite wonderful," but his one caveat was that the movie was "too long."
The Dark Knight has grossed over $531 million in the U.S. box office and nearly $1 billion worldwide. The movie has just been nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actor for the late Heath Ledger with his performance as the Joker in the movie. Ledger was recently awarded a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for the movie.
While Warner Bros. is eager to make another Batman movie, currently no official announcements regarding The Dark Knight sequel have been made at this time.
