The New York Times is reporting the details beyond the detainment of American journalists Laura Ling, 32, and Euna Lee, 36. After being released on Wednesday, Laura's famous sister, Lisa, revealed that while in North Korea her sister spent most of her time in isolation with only three little meals day that consisted of rice with rocks mixed in it, vegetables and a small portion of fried fish. Laura Ling reportedly even developed a reaction to the fish.
Furthermore, reports indicate that Ling was living in a small cell, where she could walk in circles for exercise, read, and rarely bathe. "Bathing was a little bit difficult because they didn't have hot water. So she would fill up buckets and she would say, 'O.K., on Saturday I'm going to wash my hair," Ling said.
In addition to not being able to take bathes, her only human contact was the guards watching over her cell. As for the transition of coming back home, reports indicate that Ling has a fear of being alone. The same is reported of Lee.
Ling's sister stated, "I hear that Euna's 4-year-old daughter does not want her to leave her sight. She keeps following her from room to room."
