Life after Hogwarts

Filming has wrapped and the Harry Potter kids are forced to say their final goodbyes

After all of these years we are finally approaching the last days at Hogwarts. Audiences have been kept happy enough with the splitting up of the last book; one set to be released November 2010 and the second part the summer 2011. The cast has already had to say their final goodbyes as shooting on Part II wrapped on June 12. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe told the Associated Press, “Everyone was really devastated. It was really, really sad”.

Luckily, the cast has thought ahead, becoming involved with other material to fight against typecasting of the roles we have begun to associate them with. Radcliffe played a teenage orphan in December Boys and Tom Felton played completely against type in the supernatural thriller The Disappeared.

Rupert Grint worked alongside Laura Linney and Julie Walters in Driving Lesson. Recently, he led one third of a heated love triangle in Cherrybomb. He has upcoming performances in the hitman comedy, Wild Target, and the sports comedy, Eddie the Eagle.

Emma Watson has stuck more to the family film route with the inspirational drama, Ballet Shoes, and The Tale of Despereaux.

After Radcliffe’s shocking nude performance in Equus as a boy who has sexual fantasies and obsessions about horses, he allowed himself to break away from the boy wizard. This has paved the way for him to have a life after Harry Potter. Radcliffe will be on Broadway, performing in the play, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Radcliffe told the AP that leaving Harry Potter behind was, “a weird, weird feeling”.

Co-star Warwick Davis posted on his Twitter, “The end of an Era – today is officially the last day of principal photography on ‘Harry Potter’ – ever. I feel honoured to be here as the director shouts cut for the very last time. Farewell Harry & Hogwarts, it’s been magic! …and goodbye Griphook!”
