Lifetime Files Suit for "Project Runway"

Network seeks exclusive rights to show.

The drama on Gossip Girl is "sew" yesterday. The real craziness is happening in reality, and those clawing at each other are network execs over fashion reality hit Project Runway.

In September, NBC Universal was able to block Lifetime from premiering the show this winter after the show's producers, the Weinstein Co., sold it to them. Now, it seems the show won't be seen until next summer, even though shooting is pretty much wrapped and ready to go.

As per the Hollywood Reporter and E!, Lifetime filed suit on Tuesday in a Manhattan federal court that states since they have a deal with the Weinstein Co., they now hold the copyrights to Project Runway and Bravo (who has aired the show for all five seasons) showing any attempt to keep those rights would be a violation.

Lifetime paid $20 million for the Heidi Klum fashion fest. The Weinstein Co. is listed as a nominal defendant in the suit because Project Runway was to be, according to the complaint, "free and clear of any third-party obligations" when Lifetime received the show.

The network is also pursuing another order to prevent NBC Universal from promoting and showing any new episodes of the show.

So who will be in and who will be out? Lifetime, the Weinstein Co., or Bravo?
