Lil' Kim Was 'in Wonderland'

Final remarks from the prosecution and the rapper's lawyer in her perjury trial

The closing statements for Lil' Kim's trial were made March 14th and 15th.

Assistant Manhattan U.S. Attorney Cathy Seibel said, "Maybe Kimberly Jones bought into her own image. Maybe she believed that she was a 'Queen Bee' who is above the law, that for a multi-faceted superstar, the rules were different,"

Lil' Kim is charged with obstruction of justice, conspiracy, perjury and making false statements in front of a grand jury about the Feb. 2001 shooting outside of Manhattan radio's Hot97. Her personal assistant, Monique Dopwell, is also on trial.

Seibel said Lil' Kim gave contradictory testimony about her friendship with Suif Jackson, who has pleaded guilty in the shooting. Lil' Kim also told a "preposterous story" that her former manager Damion Bulter was not present at the incident, according to Seibel.

"It's like 'Alice in Wonderland,'" Seibel said. "It's whatever lie is expedient at the moment."

Lil' Kim's lawyer Mel A. Sachs said the rapper was not able to clearly recall the traumatic shooting because it happened nearly three years ago by the time she testified. "She made an honest mistake of fact or bad memory. She's not guilty and that's the law."

The jury began deliberating on March 15th.
