Rapper Lil Wayne is prepping to spend some time in jail for gun charges stemming from 2007.
He is expected to be sentenced today after pleading guilty in a gun possession case. According to the New York Times, a plea deal the rapper made calls for a year of jail time, but good behavior could shave his sentence to as little as eight months.
Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Carter, pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He also admitted he illegally had a loaded gun on his tour bus in July 2007.
Wayne is one of rap’s hottest stars. His album The Carter III led 2008 sales with 2.8 million copies sold. He also won the 2008 Grammy award for best rap solo performance.
