Lily Allen Does Not Condone Drug Use
Lily Allen is retracting a statement she made in the Word magazine that made it sound like she supported drug use, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.
"I haven't got a right to tell people to ease up on their views on it, or that taking drugs is a good thing or a bad thing," Allen said. "I'm not well-educated enough on the subject, but I can observe what I see, and that's what I've done."
She added that she knows people who "take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work everyday, no problem."
Now, the singer has released a statement stating, "Lily Allen would like to state unequivocally that she does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs."
Mark Ellen, editor of the Word magazine, supported Allen, telling the Mirror, "Lily Allen is one of our most honest, exciting and outspoken pop stars and we support her in calling for a sane and unhysterical debate on the serious problem of drug use in the UK."
Lily Allen's new album, It's Not Me, It's You, will be released next month.
