To celebrate Carvel’s 75th anniversary, the company graciously issued 75 Black Cards to celebrities. The cards had the celebrity’s name printed on the front and each patron was required to be present at every purchase.
Ashley Swann, the Carvel Public Relations Manager, issued a press release claiming the Lohan family has been abusing their privileges.
Carvel issued a card for Lindsay and card for her sister, Ali; however, the girls’ extended family has used the card without either of their presences on multiple occasions.
In the beginning, Carvel honored the Lohan’s orders and politely reminded them that the Black Card was not a free ticket for unlimited Carvel ice cream for extended family and friends of the Lohans.
After six months of larger orders, Carvel finally cut off the card and removed it from the Lohans' possession.
Dina Lohan was extremely upset and called the police to demand her card back. The police returned the card to Dina and told her not to use it again.
On Carvel’s website, Swann wrote, “This is an unfortunate situation where certain people feel entitled to use a celebrity’s name for their own purposes. We regret that the Lohan family is upset and hope this matter is put behind us quickly.”
