Lindsay Lohan Faces a Furry Lawsuit

The "Mean Girls" star allegedly stole a mink coat.

According to ABC News, the supposed owner of the coat in question, Maria "Masha" Markova, filed the lawsuit in a Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday.

The Columbia student's lawyer, Merrill Cohen, told E! that it's not sufficient enough for the 21-year-old actress/singer to merely return the coat-and with damages, such as a tear in the lining and a few stains. In addition, Lohan kept the coat for a few weeks before giving it back.

"Negotiations with her lawyers just ended up failing," said Cohen. "They stopped calling us back."

When the news first came out a few weeks ago, Lohan's publicist immediately defended her: "This is crazy! The bombing of Lindsay has to stop. She is in a good place right now. Why can't everyone leave her alone?"

With the lawsuit, there hasn't been much word from Lohan's reps. Meanwhile, PETA got involved. As E! reported, PETA's pitchman Dan Matthews wrote a letter to Markova, saying that there shouldn't be ownership of the coat.

"That coat belonged to dozens of animals that were electrocuted, gassed, strangled, drowned or beaten to death just so you could try to appear wealthy," Mathews wrote.

In the letter, Matthews wrote that Markova should watch an antifur video hosted by Martha Stewart, who was once a fur wearer, and then donate the pelt to the homeless.
