The 24-year-old actress plans to hire Stuart V. Goldberg, a criminal defense attorney from Chicago, after her previous lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, abruptly quit last week, according to TMZ.com.
Though Holley had not supplied a reason for abruptly quitting the case, her last public statement said Lohan was ready to go to jail and face her 90-day sentence, as well as an additional 90 days in rehab, for violating her probation on her 2007 DUI and drug issues case.
According to the celebrity gossip website, Lohan’s mother, Dina, and sister, Ali, met with Goldberg for six hours on Friday after Lohan personally called the lawyer and asked him to fly in to Los Angeles.
The Mean Girls actress, who is allegedly “scared to death” of spending time behind bars, begged the judge for mercy last week in court, saying she was never told when she was expected to begin her alcohol counseling, according to NY Daily News.
“It’s very difficult, we’re not sleeping well, we’re not functioning,” Dina Lohan told Entertainment Tonight. “We cry a lot and we hug a lot. She’s petrified, we all are.”
