Lindsay Vonn Wins Super-G to Claim 3rd Straight World Cup Title

American downhill skier Lindsay Vonn, who became a mainstream media sensation during the 2010 Winter Olympics, won the Super-G race on Friday morning.

The Associated Press is reporting that American downhill skier Lindsay Vonn won the Super-G race on Friday morning to claim her third consecutive World Cup title. Vonn was the final skier to make her way down Kandahar hill during the Super-G and she clinched her World Cup victory with her performance in Friday’s race in combination with the finish of Germany’s Maria Riesch, who finished fourth. Due to their respective finishes, Vonn has accumulated an insurmountable 215 point lead heading into the season’s final race, which is the slalom on Saturday.

Vonn has confirmed that she will be skipping the slalom due to the fact that she has already clinched her third consecutive World Cup title. She commented on how it felt to accomplish her goal by saying, “I was so nervous because the overall World Cup title was on the line. An overall title is one of the biggest things you can win in our sport. I gave it all I had, I have nothing more. I am the most successful American ever and I am very, very happy.”

With her performance in the World Cup, Vonn has surpassed Bode Miller’s previous American record of 32 World Cup victories. She also established a new American record with 11 victories in one World Cup season, according to The Associated Press.
