If studios can re-release classic films, or films that would have been better in 3D (but at the time it did not occur to the director), not only would they be cutting costs but would profit from having regular moviegoers (who willingly spend the extra five bucks for the 3D experience) watch a film they probably own and have watched a hundred times.
This parallels the time when films decided to have sound and full color to pull the public away from television, their strongest competition at the time.
James Cameron, best known for Titanic and most recently Avatar, is currently working on bringing back Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet in 3D.
According to Daniel Frankel, TheWrap writer, Cameron will take his time in this project because “two and half D is not worth the premium ticket price” Cameron says.
Additionally, Cameron’s project list includes Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. Joshua L. Weinstein reports that along with the films, Cameron will aid in the construction of a new Avatar attraction in Orlando, Florida.
