Live-action "Jetsons" Film Being Developed

Robert Rodriguez is on board to direct the film.

Director Robert Rodriguez has his sights set on filming a live-action adaptation of the classic 1960s cartoon, "The Jetsons."

"I've been developing [The Jetsons] for a while," Rodriguez told MTV News, adding that he's hoping to start shooting "next year," he said.

Although Rodriguez didn't mention too many details, he did confirm that Adam F. Goldberg ("Fanboys") has already penned an early draft of the script.

"We're writing the script right now," Rodriguez said.

The "Sin City" director stayed tight lipped regarding who might be cast as George Jetson, his boy Elroy, daughter Judy, or Jane his wife.

The news is rather surprising, considering how much Rodriguez already has on his plate. The ambitious director is currently in the process of redoing the "Predator" franchise, working on a second installment of "Sin City," preparing for the sci-fi thriller, "Nerverackers," and going forward with a "Grindhouse" spin-off.

According to IMDb.com, "The Jetsons" is not expected for release until 2012.
