Lohan Ordered to Appear in Court
Lindsay Lohan, celebrity socialite and "Mean Girls" star, was given an order to appear in court after missing mandatory alcohol education classes, according to ,a href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8312040.stm>BBC news. These classes were assigned beginning August of 2007 after Lohan was convicted of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, underage drinking, and fleeing the scene of an accident among other items. The actress was given 18 months to complete the courses; failing to do so in the required time.
In her defense, the lawyer for the recently less-than-prolific actress, stated there was "confusion over when she would attend some sessions." According her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, Lohan had informed officials she would begin filming for an upcoming film in Texas and as a result would not be able to attend the classes in Los Angeles. The misunderstanding of when she would return to her hometown led to her inability to finish the classes in the required time period.
While Lohan's explanation was deemed sufficient, Judge Marsha Revel added another year to Lohan's three-year probationary sentence and followed the sentencing with words of advice, making clear that "this has to be a top priority." ,br>
Lohan reportedly arrived 90 minutes late for the hearing, but faced no repercussions.
