'Lord of the Rings' star to join new ABC fall drama
On Friday, at this year's Comic-Con, ABC announced that "Lost" alum Dominic Monaghan will be part of the cast of the network's new fall drama, "FlashForward."
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "There had been speculation that Monaghan would be added to the action drama ever since he was featured in the 'ABC House' promo campaign this spring despite the fact that his character on 'Lost' had drowned. ABC has been so high on 'FlashForward,' slated to premiere Sept. 24, that it began airing promos for it during 'Lost' before the show was officially picked up to series in May."
The show is based on the novel by Robert J, Sawyer and showcases the aftermath of a worldwide incident where everyone blacks out for two minutes and 17 seconds and has mysterious images of six months into the future.
Monaghan co-stars include "Shakespeare in Love's" Joseph Fiennes, "Star Trek's" John Cho, Jack Davenport who played Commodore James Norrington in all of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, as well as Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, Brian F. O'Byrne, Christine Woods, Zachary Knighton and Peyton List.
Besides appearing on "Lost," Monaghan's past industry credits include starring in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" as well as playing Hobbit Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
The show's executive producers are David S. Goyer, who was the executive producer of 2002's "Blade II," Brannon Braga, who was the executive producer of the cancelled UPN science fiction television series, "Enterprise," Marc Guggenheim, who was the executive producer of ABC's now defunct dramedy, "Eli Stone," and Jessika Borsiczky Goyer, who was the executive producer of the 2009 Gary Oldman horror film, "The Unborn."
