Luciano Pavarotti battles cancer with help of God

The renowned opera singer says God is helping him through his treatment, and adds he doesn't want to listen to himself anymore.

World-famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti says his recovery from pancreatic cancer is being aided by God's hand, he tells his friend and Milan newspaper correspondent Corriere dela Sera.

"Now I only need God's help, and it really seems to me that he is giving it to me," Pavarotti said in the interview published Tuesday.

Doctors found Pavarotti's cancer last month before he was set to begin his farewell tour. His concerts for the rest of the year were canceled.

"But I find nourishment in my childhood, which was poor and happy, and I view things with serenity. Illnesses haven't left me anguished," he said of his outlook on the situation.

The 70-year-old singer also said he is tired of hearing recordings of himself.

"It was a great beautiful season that we had," Pavarotti said. "But I don't listen to myself (singing) anymore. I don't want to hear myself. If you invite me to dinner, and to please me, you put on one of my own recordings, I would walk out on you."
