Luciano Pavarotti in Stable Condition

The tenor was checked into an Italian hospital with a fever.

Luciano Pavarotti was in stable condition on Thursday after being hospitalized with a fever in Modena, Italy, the singer's hometown.

The 71-year-old tenor was brought into Modena's Polyclinic on Wednesday and has been kept under observation. The local paper, "Il Resto Del Carlino," reported that he was suffering from pneumonia. The singer is expected to be released within a few days.

Pavarotti underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer last year.

Pavarotti's career spans over 40 years. During this time, he has received Kennedy Center Honors and holds two Guinness World Records: one for the most curtain calls and another for the highest selling classical album of all time, "In Concert," in which he worked with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras under the group The Three Tenors.
