Luke Wilson's New Role Is Quirky
Luke Wilson is in a new film that debuts on Friday called Henry Poole Is Here, which is a quirky film drama that puts him in a new pairing of miracles and booze that was an unlikely pairing, according to Reuters.
The actor told Reuters that he connected to the seemingly-doomed protagonist, Henry Poole, and the movie's poignant, uplifting message about personal redemption, reported Reuters. The 36-year-old actor as with his brother, Owen Wilson, made his name in low-budget films such as Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. He said that the combination of both drama and comedy in the tale of spiritual awakening also appealed to the actor.
Wilson told Reuters, "It has a lot of sly humor in it. Even when all Henry wants to do is buy booze, he keeps getting dragged into these conversations, and I love the idea of this curmudgeon who has to deal with people despite himself." The protagonist learns that he has a fatal disease so he moves back to his old neighborhood to drink himself to death. Two neighbors and what may or may not be a miraculous water stain on the side of his house ruin his self-destructive plan, reported Reuters.
Poole has the slightly nosy, slightly crazy woman, Esperanza, as one of his neighbors who sees the face of God in the stain. The other side of the story has Dawn, who cares for her mute daughter. Esperanza's faith and Dawn's friendship bring Henry back from the brink of his own major self-disaster, reported Reuters.
