Glee has certainly become one incredibly successful marketing medium. Last week's Madonna-themed episode of the show has caused a spike in the sales of both the show's soundtrack and Madonna's greatest hits compilation and singles.
The Power of Madonna, the soundtrack to the episode, has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with 98,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The cast's rendition of "Like a Prayer" was also the show's most successful single track last week, selling 87,000 downloads and debuting at No. 10 on the Digital Songs chart. The track is also No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Madonna's own sales have also increased, with her catalog of albums seeing a 44% increase in sales, up 17,000 from 12,000.
Her greatest hits compilation Celebration sold 6,000 copies alone - up 219% - and reentering the Billboard 200 at No. 85.
The album received prominent product placement in the show when character Sue Sylvester held it up in her appeal to get Madonna's music played over the school intercom.
It's no wonder, then, why Britney Spears' manager was trying so hard to get Madonna's protege her own Glee episode!
