Madonna confirmed to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Two months after speculation began, Madonna was confirmed as the act for the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show on Feb. 5.

The announcement came Sunday and was posted on Madonna’s official site. It was also announced during NBC’s Sunday Night Football Coverage.

Deadline reports that Madonna will collaborate with Cirque du Soleil and choreographer Jamie King, who has worked with Madonna in the past. Multimedia artists Moment Factory have also signed on to work on the show.

According to AOL TV, King’s past work with Madonna includes 2008’s Sticky & Sweet tour and 2006’s Confessions tour. King also worked on Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour.

The halftime show will work as a great promotional tool for the Material Girl. Her film, W.E. opens just two days before the Super Bowl, notes Entertainment Weekly. She is also working on a new album that is set to be released next year.

Last year, The Black Eyed Peas headlined the halftime show, which was watched by over 165 million people, according to The New York Post. Past performers include Paul McCartney, U2, Prince and Bruce Springsteen.

Super Bowl XLVI will be broadcast on NBC.
