Madonna to launch construction of Malawi school for girls

An approximate $15 million school project by Madonna in Malawi could be finished in two years.

Madonna launched the construction of the school for girls in Malawi and promises to develop similar schools in other countries if the first project goes well.

Reuters reports, The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls is expected to have a cost of $15 million, will be completed in two years and will accept 500 girls from the South African country.

Madonna has two adopted children from Malawi and said she wanted to give girls from Malawi an opportunity to succeed. Malawi is a country of 13 million people, which is going through an AIDS epidemic that has left over a million children orphaned.

In an interview Madonna said she wants to give these children the opportunity to learn since she had always lived a privileged life and had taken education for granted.

Madonna has two adopted kids from Malawi, a son from her marriage to film director Guy Ritchie, and a daughter with fitness trainer Carlos Leon.
