Madonna thinks Lady Gaga's song is 'interesting'

Madonna may not be as impressed with Lady Gaga as Lady Gaga is with her.

The New York Daily News reported the material girl opens up for the first time about her thoughts on mother monster in an upcoming issue of Newsweek.

In the interview, Madonna spoke about her displeasures with the similarities between her 1989 hit “Express Yourself” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” which was released 12 years later.

"I thought, this is a wonderful way to redo my song ["Express Yourself"]," she said. "I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting."

According to Us Weekly, the 53-year-old veteran performer isn’t the first person to question the originality behind “Born This Way.”

But Lady Gaga insists the song was completely her own doing.

"I'm a songwriter. I've written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody?" the 25-year-old said defensively.

"What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about… If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It's the same one that's been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I'm the first f***ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I'm a plagiarist, it means that I’m f***ing smart. Sorry."

However, Lady Gaga and Madonna do seem to be on good terms. In 2009, they spoofed themselves on a sketch for Saturday Night Live.
