Major Television Networks to Air "Hope for Haiti"
"Hope for Haiti," an 11 hour broadcast will air for two hours on major network television stations, Friday, January 22.
The Haitian-American multi-platinum musician Wyclef Jean will host the telethon in New York, while actor George Clooney hosts in Los Angeles. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper will report directly from Haiti. The telethon's proceeds will go directly to Jean's foundation, Yele Haiti, along with UNICEF, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, and the Red Cross.
On Tuesday, Jean expressed his concern for the people of Haiti, "I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now."
Jean's foundation has already contributed more than $2 million dollars to aid relief efforts.
The celebrity-filled telethon sponsored by MTV Networks will begin commercial-free at 8 p.m. Eastern time airing internationally. Networks participating in the telethon include ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT.
