Mama Cass Elliot's Music To Be Released on CD for the first Time
Before you make a list of the CDs and DVDs you have to buy, there is something else to add to that list. The Final Recordings of Cass Elliot, also known as Mama Cass, will be released Aug. 25 and a DVD will also be released showing some of her earlier work with the group The Mamas & Papas.
The reissue of the CD will include the work that was done when Cass went to RCA records and the DVD being released by Infinity Entertainment Group has renditions of the Mamas & Papas' songs.
The CD package will include heavy noting by Elliot's personal historian, Richard Campbell as well as by her daughter, Owen Elliot-Kugell. In Elliot-Kugell's notes, she writes, "How amazing (it was) in the year 2009 to be able to go into the studio and watch the now 37-year-old tapes be loaded into the machines and actually played. Nothing had disintegrated. And we were transported instantly back to 1972."
Mama Cass Elliot was born Ellen Naomi Cohen Sept.19, 1941 in Baltimore, Md., and was introduced to music through the New York folk scene. She died in London July 24, 1974 due to heart failure.
