Mamma Mia! Soundtrack Tops the Charts

The soundtrack beat out Miley Cyrus for the number one spot.

If last week's album sales are any indicator, Miley Cyrus may be a hit with younger audiences, but old favorites like ABBA can still attract their share of fans.

The ABBA-driven soundtrack to the recent Mamma Mia! film earned the number one spot on the Billboard 200 this week.

The soundtrack, which has been in stores for five weeks, sold 130,000 copies in the U.S. last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, making the total number sold to date 576,000. It beat out Miley Cyrus's Breakout, which sold 102,000 copies, and Sugarland's Love on the Inside, which moved 91,000 discs last week.

With no major album releases taking place last week, all of the top three albums still saw their sales decrease from previous weeks, but Mamma Mia! slid into number one by having the smallest sales drop. The soundtrack dipped just 5 percent, compared to Cyrus's 37 percent drop and Sugarland's 47 percent decline, E! reported.

Mamma Mia! is the second soundtrack to top the charts this year since Juno's number one showing in January. The film, which stars Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan singing some of ABBA's most memorable tunes, had the strongest box office opening weekend ever for a musical, with over $104 million made.

The soundtrack's number one spot is a bit of vindication for the Swedish pop group, ABBA, who has never had a top ten album on the Billboard 200. The group's greatest hits collection, Gold, is currently number one on the Top Pop Catalog list, according to Billboard.
